TRAVEL agents who sell rail tickets have been given a deadline of June 30 to say whether or not they will pay £375 for automated booking and ticketing equipment.
Association of Train Operating Companies retail operations manager Mike Lamb said that if a lot of agents wanted to carry on selling paper tickets, the matter would be reviewed.
But he is confident most agents will accept the deal because the industry has been calling for automation.
The issue affects 700 retail outlets. They will decide whether to pay £275 for software and £100 for a printer.
Agents with global distribution systems are unaffected as they can access ATOC’s electronic booking system Elgar.
