Virgin to launch India service

VIRGINAtlantic will launch flights to India in July under a partnership with state-owned airline Air India.

Talking exclusively to Travel Weekly, Sir Richard Branson said the first flights from Heathrow will be on July 5.

He confirmed all the necessary airport and airline agreements were in place for Virgin’s first services to the Indian subcontinent.

Virgin officials were in Delhi last week completing the formalities.

The carrier will operate three times a week to Delhi through unused Air India frequencies from the UK.

A Boeing 747 will operate the route.

Meanwhile, Virgin launches a twice-weekly Gatwick service to Las Vegas on June 8.

The route will be the only direct scheduled flight to Las Vegas from the UK.
