Crosslandin warning to Web rivals
AIRTOURS has said it will block lastminute.com and other recent industry entrants from selling its products.Chairman David Crossland said that although Airtours products would still be available through other tour operators’ sites following the launch of mytravelco, they will not be on sale on new dot coms which have no stock of their own.
He said Airtours would only sell through companies that had their own stock available for sale on mytravelco, which will feature rival operators’ products.
Airtours group managing director Tim Byrne said mytravelco would compete with other global brands, such as Expedia, as well as Internet start-up companies.
He claimed that although the rival Web sites had a headstart on mytravelco, it would quickly become established in the marketplace.
