n transparency moveThe Association of Independent Tour Operators has reacted with scepticism to the redrafting of a document demanding transparency in the industry. The Department of Trade and Industry has given AITO until June 9 to comment on plans to make agents display their ownership links on the outside of shops.
n thomson job losses
Thomson has made further redundancies as part of the restructuring at the operator. The number of job losses was unclear as Travel Weekly went to press.
n management buyout
Over 20 Hogg Robinson managers are contributing to a £232m buyout of the business travel agency. The team is led by chief executive David Radcliffe and executive chairman Neville Bain. The management buyout deal is offering 285p per share.

Co-op Travelcare has launched an on-line shop which links its Web site with 10 travel firms. It has signed deals with Kuoni, Hoseasons, Superbreak, Bales, Utell, ABC Holiday Extras, Holiday Autos, P&O Ferries, Stena Line, Traveller’s Book Store and thetrainline.com.The site is www.travelcareonline.com.
n open-skies talks
British Midland bosses are to lobby UK Government negotiators at next month’s open-skies talks. Director of industry affairs Tony Davis and possibly chairman Sir Michael Bishop will attend talks in London on June 12 and 13 to secure transatlantic rights. They hope a mini-deal, reached earlier, will turn into an agreement for British Midland to start US flights.
