Cathay eyes non-stop fromManchester
Cathay Pacific Airways may launch non-stop flights from Manchester to Hong Kong next year after taking delivery of additional aircraft.A spokeswoman for the Hong Kong-based carrier said it may put a Boeing 777, which will join the airline’s fleet this December, on to the Manchester route and cut out stops in Amsterdam and Paris.
“Nothing has been decided yet, but we would like to offer a non-stop service from Manchester and it is possible we can do this when we get more aircraft,” she said.
Cathay will take delivery of 15 new aircraft by September next year, boosting the size of its fleet by almost 25%.
In addition to the Boeing 777, it has orders for 10Airbus A330s, one Airbus A340 and three Boeing 747 freighters.
Cathay’s spokeswoman said that as the B777 is an economical long-haul aircraft, it was the one most likely to be used on the Manchester route.
“As B777s have fewer seats than the B747, it would be an economical aircraft to use out of Manchester,” she added.
Cathay is also looking at launching flights between Hong Kong and the Middle East, and Hong Kong and Hawaii.
