Air Mauritius adds capacity to manage continuing growth

AIRMauritius is to increase capacity from Heathrow and Manchester this winter.

From October 28, Heathrow flights on Saturdays will fly non-stop to Mauritius. At the moment they stop in Brussels.

The other two weekly Heathrow-Mauritius flights are already non-stop.

In Manchester, the weekly flight will continue to stop in Brussels but will benefit from an equipment upgrade from October 30.

A larger capacity Airbus A340 will replace a Boeing 767 on the route to provide up to 100 extra seats.

For summer 2001, the Manchester service will be a non-stop operation.

Regional manager for the UK Chris Gilbert said: “The Manchester operation has shown continued growth but has been limited to the capacity the Boeing 767 can provide. This next step eliminated the capacity restrictions.”

Gilbert said the use of an A340 fleet to the UK means the airline can make savings by only having an Airbus-trained crew.

Air Mauritius said tourism to the Indian Ocean islands was up 12% last year and showed signs of continued growth during this year.

In the future, the airline expects to meet extra capacity demands by adding a fourth weekly Heathrow service for winter 2001.
