BA chief to join airline board

BRITISHAirways chief executive Rod Eddington has joined the airline’s board as an executive director.

He will be joined by Martin Broughton and Dr Martin Read. The two experienced businessmen will work on the board as non-executive directors.

The trio are expected to be formally elected by shareholders at the BA annual meeting on July 11.

Current non-executive deputy chairman Sir Michael Angus, the man believed to have instigated the ousting of former chief executive Bob Ayling, will step down from the board in July.

In his first major role as chief executive, Eddington is expected to announce annual BA losses of around £200m tomorrow. He will also outline the airline’s strategy for improving results.
