Air Canada merger upset

AIRCanada’s president and chief executive Robert Milton has admitted the merger of his carrier and Canadian Airlines is struggling to meet passenger demand.

He told shareholders at the carrier’s annual meeting that call centres, reservation systems, check-ins and airport services were failing to cope with a higher level of customers.

But he pledged to work to solve the problems and argued that the merger was always going to cause difficulties.

“At the core of all these problems is the inescapable fact that there’s no problem-free way to put two companies together,” said Milton.

Air Canada/Canadian also has to contend with an ongoing investigation by UK competition authorities over their merger and its impact on choice for passengers.
