President’s role

Bath plugs cost cutting

NEWABTA president Stephen Bath claims he will save the assocation money by cutting back the role to a two-day-a-week job and limiting his expenses.

“By not being full time and not travelling as much as my predecessor, I will not submit big expenses, which will suit ABTA and me,” said Bath, who beat Brian Axon-Boyes to the top job last week.

He stressed he was not criticising Steven Freudmann, who came under fire for spending nearly £1,000 a week on expenses but added that he will only represent ABTA at key events. “Ihave a full-time job at Bath Travel,” he said.

Bath is joint-managing director of 66-branch Bath Travel.

He confirmed he would not be paid less than Freudmann, who worked up to five days a week.
