I write concerning the spiralling into oblivion of our national airline, British Airways, of which we were all once proud, with Bob Ayling in the pilot’s seat. To cabin crew and check-in staff, whose £50m pay cuts were used towards the painting of BA tailfins in ethnic designs, BA means Below Average morale.
To travel agents, whose commissions were cut from 9% to 7% two years ago, BA meant Beastly Airways. To agents, whose commissions are about to be slashed from 7% to zero, BA now must mean Book Anything but BA.
To Bob Ayling, could BA please mean Break Away from this kamikaze dive. He has ‘Aylingated’ his staff, his customers, the city, his shareholders and, of course, agents. In all seriousness, how can BA justifiably claim to be the World’s Favourite Airline?
