Tourism Flanders adopts zero tolerance rule for Euro 2000

TOURISM Flanders is adopting a policy of zero tolerance towards disruptive football fans during Euro 2000.

In Bruges, one of the locations for the tournament which takes places between June 10 and July 2, supporters will travel on colour-coded rail routes that correspond with the colour of their match ticket. Shuttle buses will run from the station to the allocated seating area.

A Tourism Flanders spokeswoman said: “We’re taking a stance of zero tolerance. Fans aren’t allowed into the stadium unless they show a ticket and we’re asking people to carry a passport at all times.”

Meanwhile, cross-Channel operators such as Hoverspeed and Eurostar said they have been liaising with the police ahead of the tournament so that additional security could be added if necessary. P&OFerries is continuing its policy of not carrying football fans, introduced following previous soccer hooliganism.
