Silversea gets set for 2001 world cruise

SILVERSEA Cruises has announced plans to launch its first world cruise next year.

The 126-day voyage on Silver Wind will kick off in Los Angeles on January 3 and end in London. Prices start at £6,445 per person for a 15-day segment or from £44,495 for the entire cruise.

Senior vice-president for Europe, Middle East and Africa Aris Zarpenely said: “There is demand for a world cruise. Now we are going to have four ships we can spread our wings and do more itineraries.”

Silversea is due to take delivery of the 388-passenger Silver Shadow in September. A sister ship, Silver Whisper, will join the fleet in July next year.

The company’s latest Cruise Atlas, which covers the period from January next year to April 2002, has been expanded from 120 pages to 150 pages to take account of the new capacity.

Meanwhile, Silversea has announced a new partnership with luxury hotel group Relais and Chateaux. The companies will cross-promote each other’s products and Silversea plans to get Relais and Chateaux chefs to develop special dishes for its passengers.
