uSelf-confessed sexist Steve Endacott, managing director of Holidays by Phone, is offering discounts to women in an attempt to drum up business during Euro 2000. He draws the sweeping – but probably true – conclusion that men aren’t interested in booking holidays during the football, so he’s targeting women. But don’t women make all the travel decisions anyway? Perhaps its time for some new travel agency stickers – “40% off, but only if you’re wearing a skirt”.


uTravel Weekly’s advertisement manager Bill Coad is doing something worthwhile for a change. uAirtours’ plans to embark on a fresh wave of aggressive directional selling have not gone down too well with agents who are already upset with direct phone numbers in brochures. After meetings to reassure independents, it wasn’t quite the message agents wanted to hear.
