Anderson vows to improve UK seaside towns

TOURISM minister Janet Anderson has pledged to help regenerate UK seaside resorts in a bid to improve domestic tourism.

She said the Government was looking at providing funding in order to help freshen up the product.

“It is a key point in the Government’s strategy,” Anderson told delegates at the Institute of Travel and Tourism conference in Las Vegas. “We are doing what we can to direct money to seaside towns.”

She added that the industry needs to better promote tourism as a career to ease the current staffing shortage.

“Some jobs are hard to fill,” she said. “The industry needs to challenge the negative perceptions. We need to talk it up as a serious career choice.”
