Fresh demand spurs Far East range for 2001

Report by LINSEY MCNEILL

TRADEWINDS has significantly expanded its range of holidays to the Far East in the latest edition of its Worldwide brochure for 2001.

In particular, the operator – which was the first to bring out its 2001 programme – has added two new resorts in Malaysia, which has become one of its most popular destinations over the past couple of years.

The two new resorts are Pangkor Laut on the island of Pangkor and Damai Laut in Lumut.

In Borneo, off the coast of east Malaysia, the operator has introduced a three-day mini-stay which takes in Turtle Island, the Orang-Utan centre, Sukau and the Gomantong Caves.

Tradewinds has also added new hotels throughout the rest of Malaysia, as well as in Thailand, Hong Kong, China and Bali.

After seeing an increase in demand in the cruising market, the operator has added a new programme in the South China Sea.

For the first time it will be featuring Star Cruises Superstar Gemini sailing from Singapore to Penang, Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur and Malaca in Malaysia and Phuket in Thailand. Superstar Virgo will replace Superstar Gemini from March 18.

To cater for the growing soft-adventure market, there is a new mini-stay in Bali which includes two nights at the Hai Tide Huts on Lembongan Island and three days of water sports, beach life and culture.

Prices in the brochure start at £519 for four nights in Bangkok, five nights in Penang or six nights in Phuket.

A range of Tradewinds Plus special offers include extra nights free, no single supplements, honeymoon offers, room upgrades and discounts.

Tradewinds deputy managing director Robbie Orr said the launch of the brochure three months earlier than last year should bring in additional business.

Far and wide: Tradewinds is expanding in Malaysia
