Thomson predicts 6% rise in ski market sales

Thomson is predicting the ski market will increase by 6%-7% for next season following two years of poor sales.

Speaking at the launch of the main edition Skiing and Snowboarding brochure for 2000/2001, managing director Andy Peters said another late Easter would continue to impact sales for next year.

However, he said that Thomson was bucking the trend with sales already up 6% for next season.

Last season the market finished 10%-12% down due to the Millennium and the late Easter.

“We were surprised with the strong pound that the market still did so badly,” he added.

New for next season are seven-day packages to the US East Coast resorts of Stowe and Killington which include a night in Boston at both ends of the holiday.

Prices start from £495 for the package including flights and accommodation.

The operator has added five new resorts in Austria following strong sales for the destination last season.

New resorts include Albach, Abtenau, Flachau, Radstadt and Zell am Ziller.

Other new resorts include Mont Tremblant in Canada and Ovindoli in Italy.

The operator has dropped Cortina in Italy and Bareges in the Pyrenees following poor sales.
