Delta rewards businesses with new flight incentives package
Report by PAULNORRIS
DELTA has rolled out an incentive programme to reward small and medium businesses for booking its flights to the US.The firms have to log on to a Web site to register flights to gain rewards including flight tickets, car-hire price reductions and cheaper accommodation. The new site is at www.business-extra.com.
Delta will give companies a user name and password to register receipt numbers from tickets. Points will be accumulated once each flight is completed. Regional director marketing Europe Jonathan Sumner said: “Following research with small and medium enterprises in Europe, we recognised the need to address this market. Business-extra provides a corporate incentive scheme which rewards a business every time they fly with Delta.”
The airline said more small and medium-sized businesses were making trips to the US but they did not reach passenger levels needed to qualify for deals available to bigger companies. The business-extra initiative is available to firms in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
In the future Delta is expected to include travel on its partner carriers within the incentive programme.
The US carrier has joined with Air France, AeroMexico and Korean Air to form the global alliance SkyTeam. The group intends to merge sales and marketing strategies worldwide (see story page 28).
Companies enrolled in the business-extra scheme will still be able to allow their employees to gain points within the Delta frequent-flyer programme, SkyMiles. Employees will also be included in a new SkyTeam reward plan which covers travel on all the four partner carriers.
