Celebrity ship finally named

CELEBRITY Cruises hosted the delayed naming ceremony for its new ship Millennium in Southampton last week.

The event was attended by 350 UK agents, who were then taken on a two-day educational sailing to familiarise them with the 91,000-ton ship.

Celebrity was forced to cancel the inaugural voyage of the ship because work on its cabins was not finished in time (Travel Weekly, June 12).

Millennium finally set sail on its 14-night maiden voyage out of Amsterdam on July 1.

Managing director for European sales and marketing Patrick Ryan said the company was trying to rebook customers who missed the first cruise on Millennium or another Celebrity ship.

The cruiseline is offering these passengers a full refund and a free cruise in compensation.
