Avis Europe signs TVdeal with NTL
AVIS Europe has signed an agreement with digital communications company NTL that will enable subscribers to book car rental through theirtelevisions.The deal means viewers can find information on Avis car rental, make a reservation or buy an Avis ex-rental car from the comfort of their living rooms.
NTL will not release subscriber numbers but said 5.6m homes are within its fibre-optic broadband network.
Avis Europe said it is aiming to lead the development of e-commerce for car rental.
The company denied it was taking business from travel agents. “We are still supporting agents but they are not the biggest source of bookings for us anyway,” said a spokeswoman. “About 40% of bookings come direct by phone.
“Bookings through NTL will be small, but we are always looking for new methods of distribution to reach potential clients,” she added.
