Select cuts premiums in bid to increase business

SELECT claims to be offering the lowest travel insurance premiums available to the trade after reducing net rates by 10%.

The discount brings the cost of its highest Super Plus cover down to £7.57 for one week in Europe, or £17.87 for two weeks worldwide.

Sales director Sergio Pia said the reason they have reduced the cost of premiums is to help travel agents compete.

“Our rates this year were the same as four years ago but as the market is becoming increasingly competitive, we have decided to reduce prices further and accept lower margins,” he added.

n Select is developing a Web site which will allow agents to issue policies on-line.

Sister company Medicare, which specialises in insurance for travellers with pre-existing medical conditions, has just launched a similar service for agents (see story, p55).
