Operator in hurry to package deals by start of peak season
Virgin Holidays will not offer packages to India before this winter due to lack of time following Virgin Atlantic’s recent launch of London to Delhi flights. The sister company airline was only given approval by the Indian authorities to operate the route a month ago and, with the inaugural flight launched on July 5, there was insufficient time to put together a programme so quickly.
Virgin Holidays is working closely with hoteliers and the Government of India Tourist Office to put together packages featuring, for example, Delhi and the rest of the Golden Triangle circuit in northern India encompassing Jaipur and the Taj Mahal in Agra.
A Virgin Holidays spokeswoman said no decision had been taken concerning how many seats would be contracted on Virgin Atlantic but she expected packages to be in place soon in order to take full advantage of the peak holiday season. The winter peak period is approaching in India with a large number of UK charters and independent holiday traffic on scheduled carriers heading to northern India, Goa and the southern beaches of Kerala state.
