ATOLbreach costs Calypso pair £3,500

TWO former bosses of tour operator Calypso Travel have been fined £3,500 for trading without an Air Travel Organiser’s Licence.

Devlon O’Neal Gooding, also known as Don Gooding, and Sarah Malin pleaded guilty at Enfield Magistrates Court in north London to the offences under the Civil Aviation (Air Travel Organiser’s Licensing) Regulations 1995.

The Kingston-upon-Thames based company, which is now under new ownership, promoted and sold air packages to Barbados without holding the necessary licence between December 1998 and May 1999.

Stipendiary magistrate C Wiles, awarding the Civil Aviation Authority costs totalling £5,000, said both defendants were experienced in the travel industry and should have been aware of the legal requirements to sell air packages.

He rejected claims that the offences were merely technical breaches.
