The joke’s on you, Thomson
The travel industry must be laughing in its boots at the threat featured on the front page of Travel Weekly that Lunn Poly’s Nigel David will quit the industry “if the public is still being lured with huge discounts”.Maybe Nigel wasn’t around at the time but it was Lunn Poly that started all the retail discounting in the first place. Maybe Nigel wasn’t around at the time, but it was Thomson Holidays that started operator discounting in the first place with Square Deals. The Thomson Group should hold up its hands as the instigators of the troubles at the moment in both wholesale and retail sectors. At least some sense may come to them now they are German. At least I made a princely 2.94% gross on my shares which is more than the amount you make selling a holiday when you have to compete with the great discount leaders, Lunn Poly.
