Letter of the week
Should I take a lead on this?
Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha! What an entertaining article gracing the front of Travel Weekly July 10 – ‘Walking the Dog.’ Wonderful, as it gave me a huge belly laugh following the average dull day in the office!Thank you for your suggestions for us poor travel agents, Nolan Burris.
Though a few practical things bother me about your ideas – when are we to have time to undertake these tasks, after all, thanks to the low margins paid by airlines, most agencies run on the bare minimum of staff, who consistently and tirelessly go that extra mile to satisfy the customer under stressful and competitive conditions. And not many of us get lunch breaks.
As for days off, we need to recover from the long hours I’m afraid.
However, we won’t shoot the idea down Nolan – yet. I can see it now:”Sorry Mr Customer, I’ll need to ask you to wait for another consultant to become free, Imust go and feed Mr Jones’ Doberman.”
Oddly too, pets bite. You know what happens to postal staff. Animals are that intelligent they know it’s your young travel trainee, yes you, who sent their mum away on holiday and they won’t like that at all.
Subcontract the task out – a good idea. But how long will it be before, like other suppliers in travel, the pet shops go direct to the client and vice versa.
That’s what I call biting the hand that feeds.
