OFTto investigate Scottish complaints
THEOFFICE of Fair Trading is investigating complaints about operators that slap big supplements on holidays sold to Scottish clients.Motherwell and Wishaw MP Frank Roy has written to the OFT complaining that a family holiday can cost Scots up to £700 more than if they lived in England.
Operators claim the extra charges are necessary because prices are based on flights from the southeast of England and extra demand for these airports enables them to keep costs down.
The OFThas already had two other complaints about Scottish flight supplements this year. Roy has also urged Scottish holidaymakers to complain to the director-general of fair trading, John Bridgeman.
However, agents claim the OFT’s inquiry is unlikely to change prices. Prestwick-based Stewart Travel owner Willie Stewart said: “It’s the market that determines what happens.”
