Millennium and Copthorne Hotels has more than doubled its profits in the past year, according to interim results. The 115 strong chain claims it is making progress in integrating last year’s acquisitions in Asia and the US.

n transport report backed by airlines
British Midland and Singapore Airlines backed the transport select committee’s report on UK-US air service agreements for greater competition on transatlantic routes. The airlines were joined by 13 other airlines and aviation groups including British Airways, Virgin and the CAA. The committee’s report will be sent to the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, who must respond in two months.
n record growth in profits for qantas
Qantas recorded a 15.1% growth in profits with a record £295.3 million in pre-tax profit in the year to June 30. Qantas attributed the growth to continuing improvements to the airline and subsidiary operations.
