n eurotunnel driversEurotunnel train drivers were set to kick off an indefinite ban on overtime as Travel Weekly went to press. The action has been prompted by Eurotunnel’s decision to recognise and negotiate pay and conditions with the Transport and General Workers Union but not with train drivers’ union Aslef. A company spokeswoman claimed the Aslef overtime ban would not disrupt cross-Channel services.
n BA extranet develops
Agents can now connect to British Airways’ extranet service via www.ba-online.britishairways.com/register. It will initially offer information but on-line bookings will follow later this year. Meanwhile BA has linked with on-line agencies as part of its move to generate 50% of sales over the Net by the end of 2003. They are Expedia.co.uk, Thomascook.com, Travelocity, OTC Online Travel Company, Flynow.com, ebookers.com and Travelselect.com.
n kuoni profits hike
North America and the UK were the best-performing markets for long-haul operator Kuoni in the first half of this year, according to the firm’s latest results. The two regions recorded a turnover of £205 million for the six months to June 30 compared to £140 million in the same period in 1999. Profits for the group as a whole rose by 12.5% to £12.3 million.

Preussag is close to securing 90% of Thomson shares after completing the purchase of the UK market leader. If the German operator hits the 90% target, City rules give Preussag the power to compulsory purchase the last 10%.
