Blackpool to see propertiesgo upmarket

LEISUREParcs is planning to bring upmarket three tofive-star accommodation to Blackpool.

The company is also looking to build new facilities to attract the business and conference market.

Managing director Mark Etches said the current standard of accommodation in the town was poor.

Leisure Parcs plans to open six themed casino hotels at the resort over the next 20 years.

It currently has one property, the Winter Gardens, as well as owning the Blackpool Tower and the town’s three piers.

But the Government will need to change gambling laws before the plans can get off the ground.

If that happens, plans for the first hotel, The Pharoah’s Palace, which incorporates 100,000sq ft of conference space, will go ahead.

“That is where the hotels used to be and we want them back – but with style.”

Leisure claims its plans will require £1 billion of private investment.
