Agents lose commission due to health scare
THOMAS Cook agents say the health scare at Club Aguamar will cost them a fortune in commission as families are offered refunds.Staff, who lose their commission when a holiday is cancelled, have said the number of cancellations has already affected wages. They predicted that worse will follow now JMC has pulled out of the property.
One agent said: “We have directionally sold JMC like they told us to but this is rebounding on us. Lots of people have cancelled due to the health scare and we will lose even more now JMC has pulled out of the Aguamar.
“We made these bookings in good faith. Thomas Cook should honour the commission.”
Thomas Cook commercial director Mike Beaumont admitted commission will not be paid but said most customers are expected to book alternative accommodation.
“We will only have to cancel around 500 clients, which is a small number out of the 3.5 million who book every year,” he said.
