Windstar debuts Auckland sailing
LUXURY operator Windstar Cruises is introducing New Zealand itineraries for the first time in its 2001/02 programme. They begin with a 10-night sailing between Auckland and Christchurch on December 23.
Cruise-only prices on the 148-passenger Wind Song start at £2,655 plus port tax of £330. Ex-Auckland voyages call at Tauranga, Napier, Wellington, Golden Bay, Picton, Ship’s Cove, Kaikoura and Akaroa.
The first itinerary in the reverse direction begins on January 2, 2002, with the programme finishing on April 12.
Clients booking 60 days in advance of departures qualify for substantial savings on the brochure price.
Windstar UK sales and marketing manager Wendy Kavanagh said: “New Zealand’s growing popularity with UK visitors makes it an ideal new destination for us. There is huge potential to attract some of these travellers to cruise with us, and we are hoping to work with specialist tour operators to promote and sell the product.
“Windstar’s image of five-star cruising without the formality ties in naturally with New Zealand’s relaxed lifestyle, and we believe the product will appeal to holiday travellers and visiting friends and relatives.”
The company markets its masted ships as a combination of a private yacht with the comfort and convenience of a five-star cruise ship, including meals, entertainment and water sports built into the price.
