ABTA sets new guidelines on direct numbers

ABTA’s Council of Regions has set new guidelines on how tour operators should present direct-numbers in brochures.

The council wants operators that distribute through the trade to give the same prominence to travel agents’ details as their own direct numbers.

The guidelines are expected to be ratified at ABTA’s board meeting on September 20. If agreed, they will only be recommendations which go forward to tour operators, as ABTA does not have the power to interfere with the commercial decisions of its members.

The council has also raised the issue of deposits as some members have complained they are either too low or too high. Agents do not get commission on the deposit until the booking has been completed. The matter will be considered by ABTA’s operations committee.
