NMEC blames Dome problems on high targets
THENEWMillennium Experience Company has blamed problems at the ill-fated Dome on unrealistic targets that were set three years ago.
Travel trade manager Mark Hayes said: “The problem has not been so much to do with the actual running of the Dome.
“The fact is that the financial projections were based on targets that were set two to three years ago.
“These targets haven’t been met and in any case were not realistic in the first place.”
Hayes was speaking after an extra £47 million was given to the attraction last week, leading to a public outcry and many calls for the attraction to be closed down immediately.
Attendance figures for the Dome were originally set at 12 million but they have now been scaled back to 4.5 million.
Hayes added:”We have received a lot of criticism but the travel trade has always supported us.
“Our sales figures through the trade are higher than we originally anticipated.”

Non-starter: after receiving a further £47 million, the Dome has been subject to much public outcry and calls for it to be closed
