CAA sets up financial protection committee

THE CIVIL Aviation Authority has created an advisory committee to look at financial protection for air travellers and holidaymakers.

The Air Travel Insolvency Protection Advisory Committee replaces the CAA Air Travel Trust Committee. Trade and consumer members include Sunvil Holidays managing director and Travel Weekly columnist Noel Josephides; Airtours director of international relations and corporate affairs Martin Brackenbury and Thomson director of holiday service UK John de Vial.

ATIPAC is chaired by John Cox and its remit will be to advise the Government and the CAA on customer protection. After its first meeting last week, Cox said: “The issues discussed were the deficit in the Air Travel Trust fund; the relationship with credit-card companies and bond holders; and problems of booking holidays on-line.”

ATIPAC will meet again on December 14.
