Airtours warns retailers on direct numbers

AIRTOURS is expected to reintroduce direct-booking numbers in brochures after accusing agents of breaking their pledge to increase sales.

The operator dropped the numbers in June on condition that independent retailers improved their sales performance. But managing director Richard Carrick said they have failed to stick to the agreement which was reached.

“We spent a long time listening to agents,” he said. “But the increase in business has been marginal.

“We have kept our side of the bargain by withdrawing direct information but agents seem to have forgotten their part of the deal.

“There was a lot of noise and promises of support but, with a few exceptions, it has not happened. It is disappointing.”

He warned independents that unless sales rapidly improve, direct-booking information will return for the third-edition brochures. The operator will take a decision at the beginning of next month.
