East Midlands offers Artic Circle day trips
East Midlands Airport is offering day trips and short breaks to the Arctic Circle this winter through specialist tour operator Transun.
Santa’s Village is a one-day break taking visitors to the heart of Father Christmas’ homeland.
A one-day break to Lapland in December will cost £209 and includes flights from East Midlands to Rovaniemi, a gift for all children aged between two and 12 and a souvenir passport incorporating reindeer, husky dog and snowmobile licence.
Transun Lappish Wonderland tour is a one-day all-inclusive trip around Rovaniemi.
Visitors will be encouraged to take part in a traditional Lapland ceremony, as well as reindeer and husky dog sleighs.
Lead-in prices start at £329 including the hire of thermal clothing.
Meanwhile, East Midlands Airport has submitted plans to extend its runway.
The main feature of the application is to extend the runway to the west. This is hoped to reduce noise from aircraft on easterly departure and from arriving aircraft, and reduce visual intrusion due to the reduction in the number of approach lights.
If approved, the new plans would create a runway length of 3,080 metres.
