ABTA has warned operators they are running out of time if they do not submit their multi-million pound claims for VAT refunds from Customs and Excise immediately.
Operators are estimated to be expecting refunds worth up to £20m following last November’s landmark VAT tribunal ruling that said package holiday discounts granted to customers by agents can be deducted from operators’ turnover for VAT purposes.
The association has reissued guidance to members reminding tour operators that, if they wish to make a claim for 1996, time is running out under the so-called three-year rule. The test case was raised by First Choice.
Meanwhile, nominations for places on ABTA’s new board of directors and Council of Regions have to be submitted by March 15.
Voting closes on April 18 for places on the two bodies. The elected board will then submit their nominations for ABTA president with the ballot taking place on May 16.
