Cumulative figures showed Thomson down 11%, JMC down 15%, Airtours up 15%, First Choice up 2% and Cosmos up 30%.
Going Places’ market share for summer 2000 is up two percentage points to 17%, Lunn Poly up from 24% to 25% and Thomas Cook down from 16.5% to 14%.
GOING Places managing director Terry Fisher has attacked rivals after discounts on summer 2000 holidays rose to an unprecedented 30%.
It is believed to be the first time the industry has offered such deals.
The 30% discounts were first offered by Thomson and the market followed.
“It’s totally unnecessary at a time when volumes are beginning to come in,” said Fisher.
He said the discounts were now beginning to erode margins.
Thomas Cook commercial director Mike Beaumont added:”We had a good weekend and did not feel it necessary to stimulate the market any further.”
Despite a gradual improvement in bookings, the market was still showing a 19% post-Christmas decline on last year. Post-Christmas, the market was showing a decrease of 2.5%.
