BTI UK’s clients were given electronic keypads to vote their views. This is what they said:

What is the level of compliance to the travel policy?

Most voted for over 75% compliance.

What role should BTI play in airline/hotel negotiation?

75% felt there should be joint activity between the corporates and BTI.

What is the company’s stance on ‘no frills’?

64% felt they should be considered but not mandated.

How do the corporates pay for air travel?

41% use lodge cards and 38% corporate cards settled by the individual.

What is the highest priority for any discretionary budget in 2001 – choices included technology, communication and training and improved service?

44% chose technology while 18% said they would not have any discretionary money available.

How will your travel department adapt to the new British Airways scheme?

45% are not yet decided although most others said they would distribute costs to budget holders by adding service fees.

What are the biggest challenges for the implementation of the scheme?

21% claim it will be agreeing financial arrangements with travel agents and 20% said it would be working out budgets.

Rank in order of priority when buying a hotel – price, location, quality and availability. Some 39% selected location as the most important factor, while 24% selected both price and quality.

Would corporates pre-purchase hotel rooms in return for guaranteed availability?

47% said ‘yes’ and 53% said ‘no’.

How do you put together a hotel programme?

42% said centrally with the hotel chain, 31% said with the hotel representative and 27% with the travel management company.
