Premier blames directional

selling for decline in business

SPECIALIST operator Premier Holidays has admitted sales are declining through the multiples as it feels the effect of directional selling.

Launching its 2001 Channel Islands brochure, product manager Beverley Scarr said 2000 sales were down 7% on the previous year.

“It has been a difficult year,” she said. “We are feeling the effects of vertical integration although we are receiving excellent support from travel agents who promote Premier.”

Despite the difficulties, Scarr said Premier was determined to remain a major player in the Channel Island market.

New to the 2001 programme are two touring itineraries and camping in Guernsey.

The Jersey Discovery Tour is seven nights’ hotel accommodation with a choice of excursions included in the price, while the island-hopping tour includes four nights on Jersey, three on Guernsey, two on Sark and two on Herm.

The Discovery Tour, which includes one full day and two half-day excursions, costs £226 per person departing in March with sea crossing from Portsmouth.

Early-booking offers include free insurance, car parking at 14 airports, half-price car hire, free excursions, and cash savings.
