* BA/KLM talks end
British Airways ended merger talks with KLM as Travel Weekly went to press. The decision has been blamed regulatory issues and BA failing to get significant control over Dutch-carrier KLM and regulatory issues.
* rise in discounts
Discounts were due to rise to 35% over the weekend as next year’s market remained sluggish. All the multiples were expected to raise offers from 30%, despite calls from senior industry figures to halt the discount war. The multiples declined to comment.
* beagrie to leave
Aon Suretravel managing director James Beagrie is to leave the travel insurance company at the end of the month. Company director Richard Jones will take over operational management.
* hotel group sale
Granada Compass has put a $4.2 billion price on its hotel group, which includes Le Meridien and Posthouse brands. Accor, Marriott International and the Hilton Group have all expressed an interest.
* amadeus change
Amadeus has appointed Mark Lewsey as marketing director, replacing Steve Reynolds who left earlier this year. Lewsey previously worked at Silversea Cruises as marketing manager planning and production.
* TV Travel shop move
TV Travel Shop will launch a 24-hour station in Germany early next year after signing a deal with the TUI Group.
