Tarzan to swing in for totally tropical party

FIRSTLY, Yorkshire agent Barrie Hathern organises a northern alternative to ABTA’s 50th birthday party, now a Midlands agent is organising an alternative World Travel Market.

Cutting Edge doesn’t wish to offend the town of Uttoxeter, but it’s hardly the most exotic place. However, organisers of the event, taking place tonight, have taken every step to make sure the destination is put firmly on the map. Tons of sand and lots of 12ft palm trees are being shipped in by local agency Journeys Ö la Carte.

Organiser Margaret May said:”Ihad the idea a few months ago but now I am terrified. The event is bigger than I had anticipated. I’ve got 250 members of the public coming. And I’ve got 16 independent operators who will be showing their wares. I have been inundated with requests from others. I’ve had to tell them there’s no room.”

May has gone to great lengths to make sure everything has a tropical feel. “Loads of operators have sent me posters and I have spent the last two weeks sticking bits of bamboo frame round them. A supermarket has leant me its Tarzan display and the food is being provided by a Mexican restaurant,” she said.

Lucky guests will be asked to check-in at an immigration desk on arrival, will be given a passport before being asked to move around to different parts of the ‘world’.
