Airtours’ Rothwell quits to join rival Thomson

Report by John Lavabre

AIRTOURS UK Leisure Group chief executive Peter Rothwell has
resigned and is returning to his former company, Thomson Travel Group as chief
operating officer.

Rothwell, 41, will be unable to take up the position
immediately as his contract with Airtours bars him from joining a competitor
for at least a year.

In his new role Rothwell will take responsibility for the
profit performance of all the Thomson Group’s UK and international tour
operating, distribution and aviation planning activities. He will report to
Thomson Travel Group chief executive Charles Gurassa.

Prior to joining Airtours in 1995 as managing director of
Airtours Holidays, Rothwell held directorships with both Lunn Poly and Thomson
Holidays. His lat appointment with the group was as purchasing director at
Thomson Holidays.
