BAdlands national park

Location: southwest South Dakota and east of the famous Black Hills region of the US Rockies.

when to go: summer is hot and dry, but in spring and autumn the roads are less crowded and the weather is very pleasant. Admission is $5.

what is it like: panoramic scenery and rock formations. The road through the central section of the park iswinding and hilly but easily accessible.

accommodation: motels, motor inns and lodges.

yellowstone national park

Location: in northwest Wyoming.

when to go: most roads are open from the beginning of May to the end of October. Admission is $20.

what it is like: lots of active geysers; also visit Mammoth Hot Springs with its multi-coloured terraces and limestoneformations.

accommodation: hotels, motels and camping grounds.
