Air Jamaica’s new inter-island carrier will make its inaugural flight on February 14 after it abandoned talks to set up a joint airline with regional carrier Liat.
The two airlines had been discussing the project for more than three years but failed to reach an agreement.
Air Jamaica’s new airline, Eastern Caribbean Express, will use Barbados as its hub and will offer daily services to Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia, St Vincent and Tobago. Martinique is expected to follow shortly.
All flights will be timed to connect with Air Jamaica’s departures from its US gateway into Barbados.
EC Express’ fleet consists of three Dash-8 aircraft, which have 37 economy seats. Air Jamaica has also signed a codeshare deal with Virgin Atlantic giving passengers a throughfare to one of the islands served by EC Express.
