ASA forces Lunn Poly to reword advert

LUNNPoly has been forced to change the wording of its press advertising campaign after the Advertising Standards Authority agreed it was misleading.

The advert, which appeared in June, promised a full refund plus 10% if customers found cheaper prices elsewhere. “Lunn Poly – we will beat anyone on price,” it claimed.

ATayside woman complained after Lunn Poly refused to compensate her for a better deal found through a direct-sell operator.

Lunn Poly argued the offer was only applicable if customers obtained, from another travel agent, the identical holiday with the same tour operator on the same departure date.

They said the offer excluded holidays from companies that sold their own packages directly to the customer and did not sell through agents.

But the ASA found in favour of the complainant saying the advert implied that Lunn Poly would beat every other holiday company on price.

This claim was “too general and likely to mislead readers”, it said.

A spokeswoman for Lunn Poly said it had since amended its “price beat” advertisements to make it clear it applied only to identical holidays sold through its branches.
