CAA releases flight punctuality figures

THE Civil Aviation Authority has today released punctuality
figures for flights travelling from UK airports.

The figures, which relate to the April to June period, show that:

* 71% of scheduled flights were on time;

* The average scheduled flight delay was 14 minutes

* Charter flights at Stansted and Birmingham had slightly
poorer punctuality compared to the same period last year;

* Charter flights from Luton, having improved significantly
in 1999, fell to its 1988 second quarter levels;

* The proportion of punctual charter flights rose from 45%
last year to 52% in the second quarter this year;

* The average charter flight delay was 40 minutes;

* The percentage of on-time charter flights at Edinburgh
increased from a second quarter 1999 figure of 31% to 48% and the average delay
fell from 51 to 36 minutes;

* At Luton the on-time figure rose 14% to 61%;

 * The average charter
delay decreased by nine minutes to 28 minutes.
