Who cares at Thomas Cook?

An open letter to Thomas Cook retail sales managers and above

I WRITE this letter in the hope that someone who cares about what is going on in our company will read it. Over the past few months, I have watched many respected and long-serving colleagues, both management and sales consultants, leave as a result of bad management from senior staff.

It is a shame that they felt the only way they could protest at their treatment was to vote with their feet but I can understand why.

We are working in a culture where senior management feel the way to get the best out of us is through threats of disciplinary action and constant criticism. Visits from retail sales managers and sales heads are no longer occasions where we look forward to receiving feedback. Instead, we are criticised for everything, from window cards to leaflet dispensers.

I am 100% behind the campaign to bring all branches to company standard but this is not the way. I am not an underperformer and neither are the other managers who totally agree with my comments.

Manny, you say that your door is always open but given the present conditions, do you really expect us to approach you? We fear disciplinary action for displaying a weekend special poster on a Tuesday!

You may think I am being over dramatic, well, I challenge you to put this to the test. The only way you will find out what your branch managers feel is to have a company satisfaction questionnaire with the results being collated by an independent party.A Thomas Cook manager.
