Keycamp seeks to boost sales with flydrive options for 2001

Report by STEVE JONES

KEYCAMP is stepping up its flydrive options next year as it seeks to attract new customers into the camping market.

The operator has dedicated a double-page spread in its new brochure to the option, with flights available on British Airways, Air France and the low-cost airlines.

The greater focus on flydrives follows a trial this summer which managing director Simon Tobin claimed was well received by the public.

“We have only paid lip service to flydrives but we carried around 2,000 passengers this year, mostly in the off season, which was encouraging,” he said. “It is only a small percentage of our overall business but we believe it could be a significant growth area.

“It’s attracting a new segment of holidaymakers. Some people don’t feel as though they are on holiday until they reach their destination so flydrives will appeal to this market.”

Keycamp has added six new sites in the French regions of Jura, Burgundy, Vendee and Languedoc, bringing the number to 121 across eight countries. Tobin said:”The sites in Vendee and Languedoc are near the beach and such sites are few and far between.”

Meanwhile, a smaller range of three-bedroomed mobile homes have been added which will feature on smaller sites unable to cater for the larger model. Tobin said: “Around 75% of our business is mobile homes and 25% under canvas. Five years ago it was the other way round.”

Prices start at £334 per family for 12 nights in a mobile home in Burgundy.
