C&Nin better position for Thomas Cook
GERMAN operator C&N Touristic is another step closer to striking a deal with Thomas Cook, as predicted by Travel Weekly on September 11.
A deal to take full control of Thomas Cook is on the cards after analysts said Minneapolis-based Carlson is planning to sell its entire stake in the firm.
Carlson currently has a 22% stake in Thomas Cook and has first refusal on the remaining share at below the market rate.
Despite saying it wanted to remain in the UK, the US giant is now expected to take the option but then sell to C&N at a healthy profit.
A source said C&N was closing in although a deal was still some weeks away.
Carlson is expected to complete the purchase and sale of Thomas Cook’s financial services division before disposing of its travel interests.
