Holiday: 14 nights at the Acapulco Malibu in Acapulco (rated 2A+ by Airtours – the equivalent of three star).

Description: a small, friendly hotel close to the golden sandy beaches, a quaint harbour, open-air bars, restaurants and resort facilities. Although the hotel is on the beach in a lively, resort location, the Malibu’s pool area and manicured grounds provide a tranquil retreat. Situated in the centre of the resort only 200 metres from the nearest supermarket. Water sports are available from the beach subject to sea conditions.

Price: £599 per person for departures from Gatwick on May 1 2001What the price includes: return flights (from Gatwick); transfers and 14 nights’ room-only accommodation.

Who would it suit? Ideal for singles and couples or groups of friends looking for good-value accommodation. As well as making the most of Acapulco’s six miles of beach, guests can take excursions including a trip to the vibrant capital Mexico City. In resort the death-defying cliff divers are not to be missed.

Description: the tour begins with three nights spent in the vast and exciting Mexico City. It then continues with a flight to Oaxaca, the gorgeous colonial city where colourful indigenous culture mixes with modern, cosmopolitan Mexico.
